Specialist tools and equipment

Our cars are full of technology both in the electronic architecture that they hold and the standard equipment that we fit to the car when new, such as driver aid systems, parking sensors, safety pyrotechnic systems I.e airbags which means our network must be well equipped in their workshops to repair any vehicle with any technology at any time.

To keep up with the ever changing technology capabilities it is important that our network of Approved Bodyshops have the latest tools and equipment that enables them to repair our cars to the factory approved standard.

Our network of Approved Paint and Body Centers must comply to a list of specialist tools and equipment in order to continue their approval. The comprehensive list of highly technical and specialist tools and equipment includes:

  • Offboard Diagnostic Information System (ODIS)
  • Four wheel alignment technology
  • ADAS check and reset capabilities
  • Air conditioning re-gas
  • Advanced welding equipment
  • High tech spray booth

This Audi Q5 "React" video illustrates the complexity of Volkswagen Group cars, which are constantly monitoring and adjusting many settings around the vehicle. This level of safety features in high end models such as the Audi e-tron as well as mode affordable models such as the VW Polo and Skoda Fabia. This is a crucial reason that all Volkswagen Group vehicles must be repaired by VWG Authorised Paint and Body Centres to ensure the safety of all passengers is to the same level as if the vehicle has just left the production line.

Steel and Mixed Material

Within our brands, body construction is predominantly made of conventional steels however, in some Volkswagen and Audi models the body construction is based on an advanced ASF body structure which is composed of different materials. With a mix of aluminum, steel, magnesium and carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), it’s possible to find in our vehicles that the load-bearing structure combines four different lightweight materials. However, the largest proportion is represented by aluminum components which, as cast nodal plates, extruded sections and sheet metal panels, are the characteristic elements of an ASF construction system.

We have a network of mixed material repairers that are equipped and trained to repair this technology to the highest standard.

Use the Bodyshop locator to find where our network of mixed material repairers are located.
