Power deal will drive EV adoption

Volkswagen Group has announced a three-year deal to work with the UK's biggest energy company to accelerate the roll-out of electric vehicle adoption.

We've signed the exclusive agreement with Centrica to provide home-charging hardware equipment and services to EV owners who buy our brands.

The deal will see Elli, the Group's central provider of charging hardware and related services, work with British Gas to deliver a package of home-charging installations, aftersales and preparatory electrical upgrades across the UK.

Managing Director Alex Smith said: "2020 is a landmark year for the Group as we launch the ID.3, the first car on the ground-breaking MEB platform.

"We're committed to the Paris Agreement on climate change and I am delighted that Elli has teamed up with Centrica to deliver home-charging solutions.

"This will give customers even more confidence as they make the switch to emission-free driving."

Under the agreement, British Gas engineers will be responsible for installing the fastest home car-charger available.

CEO of Centrica Consumer Sarwjit Sambhi said: "Getting carbon out of transport by accelerating EV adoption is critical for net zero. We're proud to play our part by helping enable the EV transition for Volkswagen as one of the world's most forward-thinking and ambitious automotive companies."
