The new electric vehicle (EV) standards for the Paint and Body network have been now published, and they must be met in full no later than January 2023 by which point it is anticipated a third of all new car sales will be of electric vehicles. This follows the Government’s Ten Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution that includes the end of the sale of new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030.
To support this change, the Paint and Body network’s mandatory tools and equipment list has been updated in line with the new requirements.
As in the past, the revised tools list has been agreed in consultation with the Network Representation Group (NRG).
Volkswagen Group require bodyshops to acquire the key workshop tools – those needed to carry out the most basic repairs safely and securely – no later than June 2021.
The remainder of tools required, such as lifting equipment for the heavy-batteries, must be purchased by January 2023 at which point the bodyshop will be a Volkswagen Group UK-approved electric vehicle repair centre.
