Volkswagen has taken the covers off the Estate* version of its Golf 8 and with it the off-road-styled Golf Alltrack** which is based on the new Estate.
The new Golf Estate is now more spacious, dynamic and digital than before, receiving comprehensive standard features and new drive types with mild hybrid and twin dosing technology.
The new Golf Alltrack is the all-wheel drive Golf Estate with SUV styling. Full specification and pricing for both cars will be announced when orders open later this year.
Appealing exterior
Compared with its predecessor, the new Golf Estate’s exterior has a more clear-cut design and has a roof section that becomes flatter towards the rear as well as a coupé-type, angled rear window. The newcomer is 4,633mm long and has a wheelbase of 2,686mm, which is 66mm longer than that of its forebear. The headlights and tail-light clusters feature LED technology.
Spacious interior
The increased exterior length and wheelbase give an interior length increase of 48mm to 1,798mm that delivers more legroom and boot space. When loaded up to the top edge of the rear seat backrest, the boot offers 611 litres of stowage space (six litres more than the Golf 7 Estate). With the vehicle loaded up to the roofliner and the front seat backrests, the volume is 1,642 litres (an increase of 22 litres)
Drive systems
New drive systems such as the eTSI with 48V technology and seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox offer efficiency. Its 48V belt-driven starter-alternator, 48V lithium-ion battery and TSI engine form a new mild hybrid drive system. The eTSI provides significantly lower consumption, by switching off the turbocharged direct-injection petrol engine whenever possible to coast along without generating any local emissions.
Innovative TDI engines are also available for the Golf Estate: in this case, so-called twin dosing – dual AdBlue injection featuring two SCR catalytic converters (selective catalytic reduction) – significantly cut nitrogen oxide emissions (NOx).

Golf Alltrack
The Golf Alltrack features permanent all-wheel drive (4MOTION) as standard, increased ground clearance and an all- terrain look. Thanks to permanent all-wheel drive it can tow a maximum trailer weight of 2,000kg. In all other respects the Golf Alltrack technically corresponds to the new Golf Estate: in addition to the digitalised cockpit, features include optional assist systems, such as Travel Assist (assisted driving up to 210 km/h) and the new IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights.
