Not everyone has swapped the daily commute for home working. Hundreds of thousands of key workers, delivery drivers and people working in supply chains are keeping our country running.
We're heavily involved in helping many of them keep their vehicles on the road and, in partnership with our customers, our UK networks, Volkswagen Group's Roadside Assistance and TPS we're playing a vital role in helping our country through this.
Along with the Volkswagen Group UK parts warehouse, the TPS Centres are staying open to support the garages in our network that have been deemed essential by the Government.
They've put a detailed plan in place to make sure all key workers' vehicles remain on the road, while Volkswagen Group's National Parts Distribution Centre in Dordon has contingency measures in place to make sure parts supply is uninterrupted.
Volkswagen Group Managing Director Alex Smith paid tribute to everyone helping to keep the relief effort on the move, stating: "Some of our customers are everyone's guardians. The strength of the UK networks, together with Volkswagen UK Roadside Assistance and TPS parts distribution means we can temporarily reduce open facilities by 60 per cent and still maintain viable, national, urgent repair coverage with minimised personnel for key workers and essential services. Thank you to our logistics and dealer colleagues for balancing difficult but essential responsibilities."
And Head of Business for Group Parts Operations, Warren Richards added: "Now, more than ever, we're enabling our customers to be the genuine heroes to their customers in these unprecedented times. Thank you for being truly incredible by standing proud and playing your part through the COVID-19 issue."
Our colleagues at Scania are also volunteering to help keep their customers' trucks on the road.
The company's workshops are currently all open, according to Scania GB MD Martin Hay, who praised the flexibility of the staff volunteering to swap shifts and locations to fill in for colleagues who are self-isolating. "There are a lot of unsung heroes in this business," he said.
Although Scania did initially encounter some problems with parts supplies, there is now an uninterrupted supply from its European parts centre.
"Operating without parts is a bit like playing football without a ball," said Martin. "We fully understand how important they are, and what role they play in helping us keep the UK moving."
