Golf 7 crash test: Genuine parts v non-manufacturer parts

Volkswagen Group commissioned a frontal crash test of the Golf 7 to see how Genuine Group parts stand up in a crash test compared to spares from other makers on the open market.

The comparison, carried out by independent testers in Germany, examined the amount of damage to Golfs fitted with sets of Genuine or open-market parts. Five parts were changed on each car - the bonnet, front mask, mudguard, cross member and bumper covering.

Cars were crashed at just under 10mph and the process showed that in the Golf with Genuine parts only 15 parts needed to be replaced, compared to 38 in the car with parts from the open market – a difference that would lead to a significant increase in repair costs.
