CUPRA unleashes Formentor VZ5 five-cylinder powerhouse

CUPRA is set to release its Formentor VZ5 powerhouse into the world on Monday 22 February to coincide with the third anniversary of the brand’s inception as a standalone marque.

The Formentor is the perfect expression of performance, delivering a vehicle with the attributes of an SUV and the sports car credentials of a hatchback; and this appeal is enhanced five-fold with the introduction of the top-of-the-range ‘VZ5’ model on the brand’s third anniversary.

With decades of racing heritage engineered into its marque, the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 will harness the power of the five-cylinder petrol engine to upgrade an already-exhilaratingly ride.

A true enthusiast’s vehicle

Wayne Griffiths, President of CUPRA and SEAT, said: “The CUPRA Formentor represents the essence of the brand, but the addition of an even more extreme five-cylinder engine to the family – along with seven other powertrains including performance PHEV - will mark it out as a true enthusiast’s vehicle – something the CUPRA community is dedicated to delivering and will allow us to reach new customers”

The presentation of the limited-run Formentor VZ7 will be the focal point of the event on 22 February, when the brand will also make other significant announcements.

Launched in 2018 as a stand-alone brand, CUPRA has its own corporate headquarters and a racing car workshop in Martorell (Barcelona), in addition to a network of specialised points of sale around the world.

In 2020, the brand maintained its upward trend with an 11 per cent growth and 27,400 vehicles sold, thanks to the strong performance of the CUPRA Ateca and the CUPRA Leon as well as the market entry of the CUPRA Formentor, the first model designed and developed solely for the brand.

This year, CUPRA aims to prove that electrification and sportiness are a perfect match with the launch of the plug-in hybrid versions of the CUPRA Formentor and its first 100 per cent electric model, the CUPRA el-Born.
