CUPRA is accelerating the transformation and electrification of its premium performance range, by opening order books for the new CUPRA Leon plug-in hybrid in the UK.
Customers can ask retailers to line up their CUPRA Leon e-HYBRID VZ2 right now before order books for pure-petrol variants open early 2021.
Inviting orders for the PHEV before its ICE stablemates signals a landmark for the brand’s electrification strategy, which will continue with a plug-in CUPRA Formentor launching in 2021 alongside the all-electric CUPRA el-Born.
The petrol versions of the new CUPRA Leon have 2.0-litre TSI engines producing either 245PS or 300PS. There will also be 310PS Estate-only variant with 4Drive four-wheel drive.
The CUPRA Leon 1.4 e-HYBRID 245PS VZ2 combines premium design and performance with economy, and offers a generous level of advanced technology as standard. The car can sprint from 0-62mph in just 6.7 seconds, yet manages a combined fuel consumption of up to 217.3mpg, and produces emissions as low as 30g/km (WLTP).
245PS of power and 400Nm of torque
At the heart of the machine is a 150PS, 250Nm 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, a 115PS electric motor, and 13kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Together these provide 245PS of power and 400Nm of torque.
The CUPRA Leon e-HYBRID has an electric-only range (WLTP) of 32 miles. The battery can be fully charged in as little as three hours 42 minutes using a 3.6kW AC wall box (or five hours 48 minutes from 230V domestic socket).
The CUPRA Leon e-HYBRID always starts in all-electric mode when the battery is sufficiently charged. The drive switches to hybrid mode if battery charge falls below a certain level or if the speed rises above 80mph.
